Create a Sustainable Model for Literacy Training in Your Organization
AIM Facilitator Coaching is a training of trainers program designed to help organizations maintain a sustainable model of literacy training in their schools or districts to continue support and dissemination of structured literacy instructional practices in the classroom in order to build a community of learners and excellence in literacy through improved teacher knowledge and evidence-based practice for improved student outcomes.
Individuals eligible to become a Local Integrated Literacy Facilitators (L-ILFs) will have successfully completed AIM's Pathways to Proficient Reading and Pathways to Structured Literacy courses with a minimum score of 85% and obtained the Structured Literacy Classroom Teacher Knowledge Certificate from the Center for Effective Reading Instruction. L-ILF trainees will work alongside an AIM mentor for five months using a gradual release model consisting of shadowing, coaching, and co-facilitating community of practice sessions. Upon completion of the training, Local Integrated Literacy Facilitators can deliver AIM Pathways training in structured literacy instruction leading educators through coursework and community of practice sessions as part of their licensing agreement with AIM.
Local Integrated Literacy Facilitator Training Options
Identifying a Potential Integrated Literacy Facilitator
Eligibility requirements:
- Successful completion of AIM Pathways to Proficient Reading (PPR) and Pathways to Structured Literacy (PSL) courses with a minimum score of 85% (Successful completion of PSL Practicum for PSL Facilitator Training.)
- Substantial background and experience in education, including experience teaching a high-quality structured literacy curriculum for at least two years; or ample experience training other educators in the science of reading
- Master's degree in education or related field and/or Bachelor's degree in Science of Reading
- Experience as a literacy coach and/or experience in leading Professional Development
- The personality and character needed for instructing, guiding, and mentoring adults
- History of attending AIM's Research to Practice Symposium and/or other IDA-accredited conferences
- Comfort and experience with virtual presentation and meeting settings
What Can Local Integrated Literacy Facilitators Do?
Upon completion of Local Integrated Literacy Facilitator training, facilitators, per the organization's licensing agreement, can:
- Engage educators in their organization in online learning using the AIM Pathways digital platform and course access through purchased licenses
- Lead community-of-practice sessions to help participants deepen their knowledge of structured literacy teaching practices through real-time scenarios, problem-solving, and collaborative discussions
- Maintain accurate records of trainings
- Communicate cohort strengths and needs around participation to participants
- Stay current with the latest evidence-based literacy research through required attendance at an annual ToT virtual retreat to review training enhancements and new research
