Philadelphia's grade-level reading campaign - Read by 4th - is committed to preparing classroom teachers in the Science of Reading in order to provide equitable access to literacy for all students. This summer and for the coming school year the organization is partnering with AIM, Mastery Charter Schools and Saint Joseph's University to establish classroom-level field placements aligned with the International Dyslexia Association's Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading.
The work on this partnership begins this summer when K-2 teachers and leaders at three Mastery Charter elementary schools in the Philadelphia area will enroll in AIM's IDA-accredited Pathways to Proficient Reading course and the Pathways to Literacy Leadership course. And this fall Saint Joseph University undergraduate students teachers from its IDA-accredited dual certification ECE/Special Education K-8 program will be placed as student teachers at two of the school sites.
Learn more about this unique partnership and the efforts to provide all teachers the knowledge and skills to teach in alignment with the Science of Reading in Read by 4th's recent blog post.
