How It Works -AIM Pathways Digital Teacher Training Platform

Research shows that traditional stand and deliver workshops are ineffective at changing instructional practices. Teachers find it difficult to translate theoretical models into classroom practice. For that reason, AIM PATHWAYS^™courses are designed to follow a Learn, Practice and Apply cycle.

Participants acquire knowledge through hundreds of learning tools including articles, teacher classroom videos, animations and videos of experts in the field.
Participants will practice with specially-designed interactive activities and downloadable resources to help them translate their new knowledge into instructional practice.
Participants demonstrate understanding of the content by applying their new knowledge to real life classroom scenarios via multi-step student case studies.
All Pathways participants receive 8 virtual coaching sessions to facilitate and support knowledge acquisition and classroom implementation.

The Pathways to Proficient reading course uses hundreds of learning objects to support learning new concepts including: expert videos, classroom demonstrations, articles, information hot spots and printable materials.

Practice

Practicing new concepts is key to developing understanding and interactive learning objects such as card-sorting exercises, quizzes and surveys allow participants to work collaboratively with a team or individually to complete tasks and assessments to be sure concepts are understood with immediate feedback on areas that still need work. Data is collected during the practice and apply activities to evaluate the participants understanding of the concepts and to remediate any weak areas. If a participant answers questions correctly, they will move ahead to the next question or section. If the answer incorrectly, the platform will give them some additional information to consider and/or present them with related content to review that will build their knowledge and remediate the learning gap.

Apply

Applying the information learned and practicing how it might be used in an actual classroom setting is a critical part of the training process. AIM Pathways provides opportunities to apply their knowledge to content including Student Snapshots, brief situations showcasing students with specific learning challenges. These simulations replicate real-life scenarios, giving teachers a chance to hone their instructional skills. The course culminates with 7 in-depth multi-step classroom simulations designed to measure the participants understanding across all content areas. Participants will be asked questions encouraging them to think about how they would apply what they have learned when confronted with students struggling with a variety of challenges.
