Anxiety is actually a normal reaction to stress, and sometimes it helps us deal with tense or overwhelming situations. Adolescents will experience some amount of anxiety at times as they encounter public speaking responsibilities, final exams, or high-stakes athletic competitions. For some, however, anxiety can go beyond typical symptoms interfering with normal daily living. Dr. Holden will discuss the basics of this disorder including symptoms, how it manifests, and ways that schools and families can help children struggling with it.
Dr. Jennifer Jackson Holden
Licensed Psychologist, Certified School Psychologist
Dr. Jennifer Jackson Holden’s clinical practice focuses on female development, starting with preadolescent and adolescent girls establishing a strong identity and sense of self, as well as a voice that will allow them to advocate for themselves. It extends to women of all ages who are navigating issues of personal growth, identity, and management of life changes.
Jennifer’s time with students also may include psychoeducational or other types of evaluations that identify learning, developmental and/or emotional strengths and weaknesses. Through the assessment process she works with parents to determine their children’s needs in the classroom and at home. She helps them use these findings to inform school placement and maximize students’ potential for success and healthy adjustment in all settings.
