Pathways to Proficient Reading and Pathways to Structured Literacy courses from the AIM Institute Learning & Research provide educators with evidence-based content in the science of reading. The Arizona Department of Education is pleased to provide these courses to Arizona educators. The courses provide teachers with content knowledge proven by science about how students learn to read and are aligned to the International Dyslexia Association’s Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading. The Arizona Department of Education, along with AIM Institute, is committed to educational excellence through professional development in the field of literacy to achieve better outcomes for all students.

Course Details
Each IDA-Accredited AIM Pathways Course includes:
- 12-month access to the AIM Pathways Platform course content and classroom resources
- An online Orientation and Pre-Course Knowledge Inventory (90 minutes)
- Asynchronous Learning Sections and Synchronous Group Coaching Sessions (Virtual Community of Practice Sessions)
- Post Course Knowledge Inventory (90 minutes)
- Pacing guide/Schedule for each course
- Downloadable Resources such as Note Taking Guides
- 3 Graduate Credits available per course through Arcadia University
Pathways to Proficient Reading (Course 1) Training Includes:
- 17 asynchronous learning sections (See Detailed Syllabus)
- 6 One-Hour Virtual Community of Practice (VCOP) Coaching Sessions
- Pacing Guide/Schedule for course work (see links below).

Pathways to Structured Literacy (Course 2) Training Includes:
- 9 asynchronous learning sections (see Detailed Syllabus)
- 4 One-Hour Virtual Community of Practice (VCOP) Coaching Sessions
- Purchase of book required - Multisensory Teaching of Basic Language Skills (4th Edition) Purchase Here

One-year access to a vast digital Resource Library
Pathways to Structured Literacy Practicum- Optional (Available Here)
- Required readings with written summaries
- 60 supervised contact hours with student(s) and submission of lesson plans, student profile(s), and other required documentation
- Three, 1-hour synchronous implementation meetings to ensure fidelity of implementation
- Lesson implementation video submissions & establishing instructional goals
- 3 successful formal observations with feedback with your supervisor
- Participants are eligible to sit for the KPEERI exam
Pathways to Proficient Reading: Secondary (PPR-S)
All middle and high school educators, English Language Arts and content areas alike, should register for this 55-hour learning opportunity that develops depth of knowledge around literacy development and proficiency across content areas. This course is a critical first step for secondary educators seeking to implement evidence-based literacy instruction in the classroom and accelerate literacy acquisition among struggling learners.
