Pathways to Structured Literacy Practicum

• Prerequisite #1: Pathways to Proficient Reading or approved IDA accredited professional development
• Prerequisite #2: Pathways to Structured Literacy 
  • Note: You must have completed the Structured Literacy course in the last 5 years with an 85% or better in the post-knowledge assessment and your final course grade average.

Structured Literacy Practicum participants will be required to work with a student to practice applying the research and evidence-based instructional practices while working under the guidance of a certified trainer.

• You are required to pick your own student to work with from September to May 
• Minimum of 50 student intervention sessions
• Minimum of 12 weeks of student contact per semester (minimum of 24 weeks total)
• Minimum of three (3) 45-minute sessions per week with one (1) student
• 4 Pre-Scheduled Live Zoom Sessions with a certified Structured Literacy Trainer
  • One 1.5 hour kick-off session
  • Three 1 hour sessions to ensure fidelity of implementation
• Maintain a digital practicum portfolio
• Three formal observations with supervisor
• Lesson implementation video submissions & establishing instructional goals
• Meet the requirements established on the Evaluation Rubric

• Provide detailed tools and information for practitioners as well as student-facing pages for every Structured Literacy concept/skills earned in the 10 targets of AIM's Structured Literacy scope and sequence.

Preparing Educators for Structured Literacy Certification with Center for Effective Reading Instruction

We are proud that both AIM’s Pathways to Proficient Reading and Pathways to Structured Literacy Approach courses are IDA-accredited certifying that course work is aligned with the Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading.

This alignment with the Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading means course content and teaching is provided in a manner that graduates can apply the principles and practices of Structured Literacy to support students. Completion of these AIM Pathways courses courses with the Virtual Communities of Practice prepares participants to take the Knowledge and Practice Examination for Effective Reading Instruction (KPEERI) and receive a Structured Literacy Classroom Teacher Knowledge Certificate when they pass the exam. Individuals who complete the Pathways to Structured Literacy course in addition to the Practicum can also apply for Structured Dyslexia Interventionist Certification.
